BOSS Eddie Howe says Cherries’ Championship destiny is in their own hands but is adopting a safety-first approach.

Back-to-back wins over Doncaster and Blackpool have left Cherries 13 points above the drop zone and 13 shy of the final play-off place.

Asked for his take on the league table, Howe said: “It is very interesting. Leicester looked like they had run away with it and Burnley have done unbelievably well to build a gap in second place.

“But there are still so many games to go and so many points to play for that nothing has yet been decided. I still think there is the potential for one of the chasing pack to get involved with the automatic places and there are still so many clubs which could get involved in the top six.

“It is so tight in and around where we are at the moment so it is up to someone to put together a run to see if they want to get there.

“We would love to go on a run. We have just achieved our first back-to-back wins for a while and are now looking to try to make it three. We are looking at things in the short term and on a game-by-game basis.

“We haven’t been consistent enough in our results and haven’t provided enough consecutive victories to move up the table and need to address those issues.

“But I do believe we are a real force to be reckoned with on our day and it is just a case of finding that consistency to make us into a top team.

“First and foremost, we have to do enough to keep our place in the league and then look beyond that once we have achieved that target. But until we have reached that, I don’t think there is any point in looking anywhere else.

“We know we have a lot of work to do and have some big games coming up against the teams around us. I think all possibilities are still with us so it is very much in our hands.”

Come on Eddie, stop teasing us with all this "safety first" talk.
We are a club clearly moving in the right direction (upwards). Aim to finish top 11 which would be our highest ever finish at this level. Of course, if we could get on a decent winning streak, things could get very interesting. 3pts at Blackburn would be very nice.!!!

It is strange how winning can change perspective on things. IF the boys win tonight then it does open up a potential assault on the top half of the table; a thought not entering minds before the Doncaster game. Three games do not make a season but 9 points certainly can change the confidence levels. Take a look at Exeter after last nights result. 5 games ago they were 6th or thereabouts. That's the result of NOT getting 9 points or indeed any in recent games. Up the Cherries!!!

Of coarse we go into every game to win, and we want to finish as high as possible in the league, 3 points tonight would all but see us safe. It would be great to see us in the playoffs this season. But I feel we are not ready for the prem in team or facility's this season and I would be more than happy with another season or two in this league and build a very good championship outfit. It would be nice to see afcb in the prem with a great stadium to shut up the tinpot club brigade, but I still feel the championship is the best league in England. Lets go to Blackburn get 3 points and see where the rest of the season goes from there.

I think that Blackburn were and are a good side and are worthy of a top 6 spot. We will do well to get anything from this game however like Eddy says we must go into every game to win, which I believe we do.

If we finish in the top half of the table it will be a fantastic achievement yet I feel that with this squad of players is more than achievable.

We all know when the assault for promotion is set for so lets continue enjoying this season and upsetting the apple cart against the so called big boys when we can. I'm loving it this season, thanks Uncle Maxim.
