AFC Bournemouth boss Howe: Ryan can be a real weapon for us

Bournemouth Echo: FLYING SCOTSMAN: Ryan Fraser FLYING SCOTSMAN: Ryan Fraser

MANAGER Eddie Howe believes Ryan Fraser has “a big future ahead of him” and is predicting the flying winger could be a “real weapon” for Cherries.

Fraser was in scintillating form and played a starring role as Cherries registered a convincing 5-0 victory over Championship rivals Doncaster on Saturday.

The 20-year-old will tonight be hoping to win his third cap for Scotland under-21s when they host Hungary in a friendly at Dundee’s Tannadice Park.

Fraser, a £400,000 recruit from Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen, has seen his stock rise sharply since he joined Cherries when he was still only 18 in January 2013.

Howe, who has given Fraser 17 starts and eight substitute appearances in the Championship, told the Daily Echo: “Ryan has had a really good first year with us. When you consider how young he is, it was a big step for him to move down from Scotland and leave the comfort of his own home.

“I think he has improved in all areas of his game, technically, tactically and physically, so we are delighted. I think he has a big future ahead of him.

“He played in a development squad game against Southampton a couple of weeks ago and was terrific.

“He was electric for the 65 minutes he played and, if he can transfer that sort of form into the first team on a regular basis, then he is going to be a real weapon for us.

“For a young guy to be involved at Championship level like he has, it has been a huge step up physically and that is where I think we have seen the biggest development in him.”

Fraser won his first cap for Scotland under-21s when he came on as a second-half substitute as they opened their Euro 2015 qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win over Luxembourg a year ago.

The Aberdonian bagged his first Championship goal during a 3-1 defeat by Blackburn in September before scoring to spark Cherries’ comeback against Millwall in October.

We have some great ball players to watch i.e. Pugh, Ritchie, Mo, Grabbs the list goes on. But for me no-one is as electrifying as the Wee Man when he's steaming into the opposition. I know he often runs into traffic and worringly takes a a lot of foul challenges but this guy is worth seeing and as EH says has had a great first season in the Championship. Hope you get that 3rd cap tonight Ryan, it will be well deserved!

Absolutely agree although Ritchie continues to be off-colour at the moment, but Fraser is just like a Tasmanian Devil when he gets going. I remember Paul Wood filling D.C. with similar excitement when he had three players to skate past. Fantastic to watch. Up the Cherries!!!

It's easy to forget when watching Ryan play that he is ONLY 20yrs, this sort of player is very good for us to progress, when I say progress I mean currently and financially when the wee man moves on - hope it isn't soon though !

All the best wee man, you deserve it. Stay injury free, please.
On another subject, just thinking aloud here, ..... with all this crisis going on with Russia, and talk of international asset freezing, economic and trade sanctions being imposed, and the crash in the value of the rouble...... Seeing as we are majority owned by a Russian investor........ Could we be involved in the fallout from all this ?.

He had his best game for us last Saturday, some of the tackles he faces just make me wince - reminds me of the great go go Groves ( Alan Groves) from the Bond era, if the wee man can just get into the box a bit more we will be sure of a shed load of penalties.

He does well the way he tries to stay on his feet after fouls. On saturday he took a kick in the face that would have seen many older and bigger players rolling on the ground as if they had been shot, although clearly injured he didn`t go down.Still won the freekick. Also the ref would look favourably on him should he be subject to a dubious shout as `he doesn`t go down easily`.

He is such a difficult player to defend against and pace to spare.

I would not like to dress his shins on Sunday morning through fear of feeling ill due to the multi - colored bruises that he must bare !

The kicks and wallops he takes on a weekly basis and just gets up and brushes them off is something that other players could do well to emulate.

He is a real pro that plays with a smile and frightens the s**t out of full backs and should get better protected in an international match.

Good luck wee man.
