BETH Aitchison struck gold four times as she continued her rise into the higher echelons of the British rankings at the Dorset County Championships.

The 16-year-old from Bourne-mouth Collegiate School produc-ed the best swim of the weekend as she slashed six seconds off her short-course PB to win the 200m individual medley in 2:17.91.

The time not only won her the senior gold with five seconds to spare but made her the fifth fastest 16-year-old in the current GB rankings. It was also worth 737 in the GB points system – the only swim above 700 in the event.

In fact, Aitchison produced the weekend’s best three swims in terms of points, scoring 688 with her 200m breaststroke time of 2:32.43 and 671 for her 100m freestyle (58.25).

The breaststroke time makes her the second fastest 16-year-old in Britain. Her fourth win came in the 50m freestyle (27.13).

No county or championship records fell and only five competition best times (CBTs) were set at Littledown – but one of those that did fall previously belonged to Aitchison.

Poole’s 15-year-old Madison Kemp clocked 2:22.68 in the 200m medley to topple the BCS swimmer’s 15yrs CBT from last year as well as secure the junior and 15yrs titles and the senior silver medal. This swim’s points rating is 665.

Kemp also won the senior and junior 100m butterfly in 1:05.22 and four other junior titles – the 50 and 100m freestyle, 100m back-stroke and 200m breaststroke.

Poole team-mate Emily Clarke was also in record-breaking form, setting a 16yrs CBT with her winning 1:04.08 in the 100m backstroke. She also won the senior 50m backstroke in 30.74 with 14-year-old Aiste Razmaite (Swim Bournemouth) taking the junior title.

The 100m backstroke produced a second CBT as Swim Bourne-mouth’s Harriet Perfect set new 13yrs figures of 1:06.91 to take the age group gold and junior silver medal.

Seagulls’ Nathan Gerrard and Swim Bournemouth’s Ryan Sym-ington both went under the 10yrs CBT in the boys’ 100m backstroke, though only Gerrard’s winning 1:19.83 will stand as a record.

The remaining record-breaker was Amy Brown (Swim Bournemouth) with a winning CBT of 3:25.13 in the 9yrs 200m breaststroke.

Lucy Brain (Swim Bourne-mouth) won senior, junior and 14yrs gold in the 400m freestyle in 4:28.67, the fourth best swim of the two days worth 667 points.

Zak Aitchison (BCS) recorded the best male swim of the week-end as he won the senior, junior and 15yrs 200m breaststroke in 2:23.12 (599 points). He also won four other junior titles – in the 50 and 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m medley.

Swim Bournemouth won all but one of the other senior golds with Oscar Esposti taking the 50 and 100m freestyle in 24.85 and 54.04, Jordan Young leading his club’s clean-sweep of all six champion-ship medals in the 400m freestyle (4:18.41) and Alan Wong winning the 50 and 100m backstroke and 200m medley (28.17, 58.91 and 2:11.69).

Todd Price joined Zak Aitchison in breaking the Swim Bournemouth monopoly of senior titles with a winning 1:00.31 in the 100m butterfly.

Swim Bournemouth won five of the six relays but the Poole team of Clarke, Inez Griffin, Kemp and Jasmine Holmes gave Plymouth-bound Robin Armayan a good send-off with victory in the women’s 4x100m medley relay – his last event as Poole head coach.
