HAMWORTHY United boss Graham Kemp has his fingers crossed for a Dorset Senior Cup final against Poole after his team shocked Weymouth in the last four on Tuesday.

The Wessex Premier side triumphed 4-2 over their Southern Premier hosts and now the County Ground manager wants Poole as a reward.

The Dolphins’ clash with Gillingham Town on Tuesday was postponed, so Kemp & Co will have to wait a week before finding out who they will meet.

Kemp told the Daily Echo: “I’d like to play Poole because of the local rivalry, but they’ve got to deal with Gillingham first, so we’ll see who we get.

“There would be good interest and a good crowd, although obviously Poole would be massive favourites.

“I just think it would be good for local football for two local teams to be in it. When we were in the Wessex League we had some great games.

“Tom (Killick, Poole manager) would probably try and play some mind games with me, but I’m too stupid to know what he’s on about.”

Dan Haysom nodded Hamworthy in front on Tuesday against a Weymouth side that featured several first-team regulars.

Russell Cook doubled the lead midway through the first half with a shot from just inside the box.

The visitors were in dream territory in the second half as Alex Martin added two superb individual goals to make it 4-0.

Weymouth hit back with two efforts in a matter of moments to ensure a nervy final 10 minutes, but the Hammers held on.

Last night’s victory marked the latest chapter in Kemp’s dream spell at Hamworthy, in which he has guided his side to nine games unbeaten.

And the boss admits the current state of affairs would have seemed highly unlikely when he took over at the end of November.

He said: “We beat Dorchester in the last round and Weymouth in the semi-final, so it’s two scalps for us and it’s nice to get to a cup final.

“No matter what cup you enter, the priority rises the longer you stay in it and in the last week of the season it’s nice to have a cup final and there’s a lot of teams that would want that.

“It’s great for the club. They have had a bit of a traumatic year and I don’t think three months ago they would have thought there was a cat in hell’s chance of getting into a cup final, but in the last three months we’ve turned things round.”
