ROB Best crossed the whitewash on his first appearance of the season as Wimborne triumphed 18-9 at Dorchester in Southern Counties South.

Tries from Will Wright and Best and eight points from the boot of James Mikolajewski proved enough to see the Minstermen to victory.

Wimborne welcomed back Riad Lynch to the front row, while Best made his first appearance of the season following injury and Nathan Cotton made his debut at half-back.

The hosts had the better of the early play and two penalties had them 6-0 up with a quarter of an hour played.

Mikolajewski reduced the advantage with a penalty of his own, only for Dorchester to add another three points to make it 9-3.

However, the first try was not long in coming when the experienced Jason Llewellyn found Sean Murphy on the short side following a maul in midfield.

The flanker made useful ground and the ball went to Mikolajewski and then Tyler Adams, with the latter putting wing Wright over in the corner.

Mikolajewski’s conversion attempt drifted just wide but Wimborne arrived at the break just a point adrift.

With the breeze on their backs in the second period, the visitors were soon camped in the Dorchester half.

After finding their three-quarters stopped just short of the line on several occasions, Wimborne added a second try.

Dorchester fumbled at the base of the ruck and Best hacked through and followed up to touch down by the posts, with Mikolajewski adding the extras.

With 20 minutes to go, Mikolajewski added another penalty to take the score out to 18-9 and the Wimborne defence held firm until the final whistle.
