BOSS Graham Kemp admitted he had been torn between contentment and frustration after improving Hamworthy United were held to a 1-1 draw by Wessex Premier rivals Moneyfields at the County Ground yesterday.

Shaun Brian’s goal 18 minutes from time appeared to have put Hammers on course for a sixth win in seven before Jake Slater popped up to earn Moneys a share of the spoils.

Earlier, Hammers had claimed an effort by Russell Cook had crossed the line, only for the assistant referee to disagree, while the hosts also squandered a series of presentable chances.

Kemp, who has presided over a seven-match unbeaten league run since officially taking the reins at the end of November, told the Daily Echo: “Our players said Russell’s effort was two yards over the line but the linesman said it wasn’t. That is quite a big discrepancy so you would probably think it was over.

“It was a really good performance but there was an element of frustration as well. We felt we had a legitimate goal chalked off and had two other chances cleared off the line.

“Their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves and we got caught by a sucker-punch for their goal. We made a bad mistake by giving away the ball on the halfway line and they countered to score.

“It was disappointing in that respect but we kept the unbeaten run going. It was good to see the players were frustrated because it means they want to improve.”
