AFC Bournemouth: Howe makes case for the defence ahead of Derby trip
CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe will task his players with producing more of the same when they bid to upset the formbook at high-flying Derby on Saturday.
Howe said he had been encouraged by Cherries’ defensive display during the 1-1 draw with Burnley six days ago – apart from the one blemish which led to the Clarets leveller.
“I thought we defended very well, bar for the goal which came out of nothing and out of context in the game,” said Howe.
“It was the only moment we switched off and the only chance we gave a free-scoring team. If we can take that into the Derby game and perform in a similar manner then we have every chance of getting a positive result.”
Discussing Steve McClaren’s impact at Pride Park, Howe added: “He has done a very good job and their recent record has been excellent. I was very impressed when we played them earlier in the season.
“They have a good squad of players who have adapted well to the new manager’s de-mands and will be there or thereabouts for promotion.
“It will be another good test for us. We have enjoyed our away games and have been good on the road in recent weeks, although perhaps haven’t picked up the points we have deserved.”
