Non-league: Wimborne could swoop for Poppies star Costello
WIMBORNE Town could complete a swoop for Bournemouth Poppies midfielder Scott Costello in time for Saturday's home clash with promotion-chasing Cirencester Town (3pm).
Poppies manager Ken Vaughan revealed Magpies had made a seven-day approach for the Bournemouth University student.
Counterpart Steve Cuss confirmed he was on trail of a midfielder ahead of his side’s next game but politely declined to discuss individual names.
Cuss’s efforts to boost his artillery came on the back of two further departures with Pat Wilson and Aidan Sainsbury let go by the Cuthbury outfit.
The double exit follows hot on the heels of Gary Middleton’s release, however, Cuss remained adamant that a play-off place remained Wimborne’s objective for the season, despite the switch round.
Cuss told the Daily Echo: “We felt the time was right to adjust things so we have let them go with the aim of trying to boost the squad with another midfielder.
“With three players going out, youngsters like Dan Burton-Hemmings, Jamie Grose and Liam Donachy, who have impressed in our Wyvern League (reserve) set-up, will get the opportunity to play before the end of the season.
“We still want to finish as high as we can and have not ruled out the possibility of making the play- offs.
"We would need to put together a good run but we play some of the top sides in our next four matches which will be crucial if we are to close the gap.”
Long-term absentee Ollie Phillipson-Masters could make a welcome return from his back problems against second-placed Ciren.
