PARLEY Sports Club have issued a rallying cry to support their quest for a £100,000 ‘super grant’ from the Budweiser Club Futures programme.

The Christchurch Road outfit were one of eight clubs from the English National League System to be awarded a £50,000 facilities grant by the scheme with each winner now entered into a vote off on Facebook for the top prize.

With the members-owned social club facing closure over the summer, more than 40 sports clubs, including Parley FC and Parley Cricket Club, were on the verge of being made homeless.

Simon Jordan, chairman of Parley FC, took charge and invested in the “dilapidated” facilities before Budweiser’s grant enabled them to carry out much-needed remedial work to external parts of the buildings.

And with the club’s future more secure on the back of the improvements, Jordan hopes to secure the extra chunk of funding to improve the playing surfaces.

Jordan told the Daily Echo: “It was run down, losing money every week and going nowhere. We had an entirely voluntary committee who were just fire fighting all the time.

“There were constant problems like the boiler breaking down and the place had just got into a sorry state. I had been involved with the football club for a while and we had a choice – to invest money and get it to where it should be or lose a key community facility.

“We sorted out the inside and built a new kitchen while the £50,000 helped us to repair the outside of the building along with a new patio and pathway.

“The £100,000 would make such a difference and enable us to secure the future of so many teams by investing in new tractors and a drainage system.

“It would give everyone a ground to be proud of from top to bottom and give back the club to the community of West Parley and the surrounding areas.
