CHERRIES goalkeeper Shwan Jalal is set to complete a move to League One high-fliers Leyton Orient once the loan window has reopened at midnight.

Jalal, who will sign initially for a month, has not featured for Cherries since lining up in a 3-1 defeat at Orient in March.

The 30-year-old is expected to deputise for Ben Alnwick, who switched south for east London when he signed from Charlton last week.

However, Orient today revealed Alnwick had been signed off on medical grounds and would not be available to train or play for an unspecified period of time.

Jalal, signed by Kevin Bond from Peterborough in 2008, could be in line to start against his former club when Posh face the Os at Brisbane Road tomorrow.

He will team up with popular ex-Cherries midfielder Marvin Bartley, who last week penned an 18-month deal with Orient following his release by Burnley, and former Dean Court defender Mathieu Baudry.

Orient set the pace in League One during the first half of the season and are currently third, just three points behind leaders Brentford and with a game in hand. Boss Russell Slade was named manager of the month for January after leading them to four wins.

Jalal starred under Eddie Howe during Cherries’ Great Escape from relegation and in their League Two promotion campaign. He missed just three league games as Cherries suffered play-off heartbreak in 2011 before losing his place to Darryl Flahavan the following season.

And despite regaining the number one spot at the start of last season and playing his part in promotion to the Championship, Jalal was replaced firstly by David James and then by Ryan Allsop, who joined Cherries from Orient in January 2013.

Jalal, who was also being tracked by Crewe, had been set to link up with Bradford City after training with Phil Parkinson’s squad in December. However, although Parkinson spoke to Howe about Jalal’s availability 10 days ago, the Bantams boss did not pursue his interest.

Jalal, whose existing contract with Cherries expires at the end of the season, had a loan spell at Oxford United in September but did not make an appearance.
