Poole Town: Killick wants an end to Spetch trial saga

Bournemouth Echo: PRO HOPES: Will Spetch PRO HOPES: Will Spetch

MANAGER Tom Killick believes Will Spetch can still succeed in his pursuit of a Football League move – by focusing on his future at Poole Town.

The Dolphins boss was instrumental in sanctioning the under-contract defender’s plethora of trials over the past two months.

Poole’s 22-year-old centre-half showcased his talents at Portsmouth, Cherries, Huddersfield Town and AFC Wimbledon before being handed the chance to shine at Port Vale last week.

Spetch, pictured, played for the Valiants in a reserve match against Wolves yesterday, but with no bids for the Swanage-based star forthcoming Killick is keen for an end to the transfer saga.

He told the Daily Echo: “While we have been more than happy for Will to trial at different places I think we would probably suggest he comes back to play for us, dependent on the outcome at Port Vale.

“If people would like to look at him they are entitled to do so but it can become a bit endless. At this stage he needs to come back, settle down and concentrate on doing as well as he can for us.

“The best way for Will to catch his break is to play for us and maintain the performance levels that attracted the interest in the first place.”

However, despite concerns over the drawn out process, Killick was quick to praise Poole’s prodigy and insisted Spetch had not been distracted from his Dolphins duties.

Killick continued: “He is getting better all the time and I believe there is scope for further improvement. I hope someone is brave enough to give him his chance.”

  • Tonight's league match between Poole and Hitchin Town at Tatnam was postponed this morning due to a waterlogged pitch.

Elsewhere in the Southern League, Bashley host Weymouth, while Verwood travel to Horndean in the Wessex Premier.

With the pitch at Christchurch still waterlogged, Priory have switched their Russell-Cotes Cup tie with Gosport Borough to their opponents' Privett Park home (all 7.45).

Good luck to Will whatever happens - whether it's for PTFC or somewhere higher up the pyramid. He is one who definitely gives his all whenever he pulls the shirt on.
