With Cherries' date with destiny less than 24 hours away, we take a look at a few facts and figures from the long and illustrious history of Liverpool Football Club.

1. Everton were the first club to play from Anfield

Despite being Liverpool’s base for over a century, Anfield was home to arch-rivals Everton from 1884 with the Toffees becoming founder members of the Football League four years later.

Following a long and bitter row over increasing rent, Everton left the ground in 1892 with their landlords forming the Reds as a rival outfit.

2. Liverpool began life in the Lancashire League

An estimated crowd of just 300 witnessed Liverpool’s first competitive fixture.

John Cameron (2), Jim McBride (2), Joe McQue, Malcolm McVean and John Smith (2) scored in an 8-0 success over Higher Walton in the Lancashire League on September 3, 1892.

The club’s Football League application was accepted for the following season.

3. David James played more than 200 games in a row

Former England goalkeeper David James, who would go on to play for Cherries in the twilight of his career, made 213 consecutive appearances for Liverpool between February 1994 and February 1998.

4. Three years without defeat at home

Liverpool once went three years unbeaten on home soil, a run which spanned some 85 matches in all competitions.

After Bob Paisley’s side lost 3-2 at home to Birmingham City in the First Division on January 21, 1978, they remained undefeated at Anfield until neighbours Everton won 2-1 in the FA Cup fourth round on January 24, 1981.

5. Liverpool have never won a competitive match at Dean Court

Cherries have twice hosted the Reds in the FA Cup, securing replays with a 1-1 draw in 1927 and a 0-0 stalemate in 1968. Cherries lost both rematches 4-1 at Anfield.

6. Two Liverpool players have come back from the World Cup as winners

When Fernando Torres won the World Cup with Spain in 2010, he became the first (then) Liverpool player to snare football’s biggest prize since England’s Roger Hunt in 1966.

7. Steven Gerrard is the only Liverpool player to reach 100 caps for England

In November 2012, the midfield talisman became Liverpool's first player to receive 100 international caps for England when he lined up in a 4-2 friendly defeat away to Sweden.

8. Iconic manager Bob Paisley never won the FA Cup

Despite winning six league titles, three European Cups, a UEFA Cup and three League Cups in nine years, the FA Cup was the one trophy which eluded Paisley.

Reds reached two semi-finals and lost the 1977 final to Manchester United during his tenure.

9. Daniel Agger has Liverpool's anthem tattooed on his hand

Danish defender Agger has the letters YNWA – representing the club’s anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone – permanently scribed across the knuckles of his right hand.

10. Liverpool suffered an FA Cup shock only last season

While they may be favourites at Dean Court, the Merseysiders will be wary of the potential for a shock after League One outfit Oldham Athletic dumped them out at this stage last season.

Matt Smith bagged a brace in the Latics’ 3-2 win at Boundary Park before earning a move to Championship club Leeds United.
