JASON Tindall lavished praise on the Dean Court faithful for digging deep to fund away travel for supporters of FA Cup rivals Burton Albion.

Brewers backers will head to Dorset for tonight’s rearranged third round clash thanks to a generous cash boost from fans of Cherries and other clubs.

Cherries hit the headlines after long-time supporter David Whitehead had devised the idea to donate money towards the transport costs of their counterparts.

A website was set up to help pay for the Brewers contingent after many had made a wasted trip to the original match, which was postponed earlier this month.

The scheme was put in place largely because of the goodwill between the two sets of supporters, which was established after Cherries had been made so welcome at Burton’s Pirelli Stadium when sealing promotion from League Two in 2010.

The initial target was to raise £800 to fund one coach but a remarkable response – boosted by national and regional media coverage – saw the total hit a mammoth £2,930.

Cherries assistant manager Tindall told the Daily Echo: “I thought it was fantastic. It shows what type of club we are. We are a family club and we like to see ourselves as fair and honest people.

“It was a shame what happened when Burton came all the way to play the game and, unfortunately, it got called off.

“It (the fundraising) was a good touch and it got good publicity because not many clubs would have done it.”

Further credit yesterday came from Football Association chairman Greg Dyke. In a letter to Cherries chairman Jeff Mostyn which was published on the club’s website, Dyke thanked supporters for their “fantastic gesture”.
