AFC Bournemouth: Coulibaly close to return

Bournemouth Echo: COMEBACK TRAIL: AFC Bournemouth winger Mohamed Coulibaly COMEBACK TRAIL: AFC Bournemouth winger Mohamed Coulibaly

MANAGER Eddie Howe says he hopes Mohamed Coulibaly could finally be close to a return to action following his painstaking recovery from injury.

Winger Coulibaly, a summer signing from Grasshoppers, has been sidelined for more than 14 weeks due to Achilles and calf problems.

The 25-year-old started Cherries’ Championship opener against Charlton but last featured when he came off the bench during the 3-1 defeat by Blackburn at the end of September.

Although Coulibaly appeared to be on the road to recovery at the start of December, he suffered a minor recurrence of his Achilles injury which set him back.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “He is making good progress. We have changed his preparation to training and tweaked a few little things with his rehab and he has improved as a result. We are hopeful we could have him back soon.

“He returned for a spell of training with us but then started to feel his Achilles again so he has been a bit on and off. We are hopeful we have got to the bottom of the cause of the problem and we can now see an improvement in him.”

Howe is hoping defender Steve Cook could be in contention for Cherries’ trip to Wigan after making good progress following his hamstring injury.

Cook was ruled out of Cherries’ festive campaign after sustaining a small tear during a training session in the lead up to the visit to Sheffield Wednesday.

Howe said: “He wouldn’t have been in contention to play in the FA Cup game on Saturday because we felt it would have been too early with no training sessions behind him. But, hopefully, he will train this week.”

Good to hear 'Dave' & Cookie are close to returning. We must nearly have a fully fit squad available now, plus with a bit of good wheeling and dealing in January the 2nd half of the season should be looking good!

BTW, at long last TalkSport (aka TalkPremiership) finally reported the Burton coach story around 5.30am this morning, they didn't get all of the details right “bless ‘em” but at least they got to it eventually!

TalkSport don't care and can't report accurately on anything outside of the Premiership, primarily it's the big London clubs, Liverpool and the two Manchesters they care about.

They are interesting enough for a bit of top flight chat should I be interested, but only for half an hour at time until they exhaust the extent of their knowledge and then have to start repeating themselves for the rest of the night.

They do sporadically put on a football leagues round up just before 5am on a Monday wich summarises 3 leagues in 3 minutes, but not always!

Daily Mail did a nice little piece yesterday . From what I have seen of Coulibaly and his body language , I feel he might be one of those players we don ' t see that often , injury prone .

What has an Echo article and report by EH about an update to injury problems suffered by Coulibaly & Cook got to do with BBC Talk Sport's lack of reporting the Burton appeal ??. Can we please keep to comments on the original story and not go off on a tangent !!!. ( and yes I too have been guilty of doing the same occassionally).UTC.
