STRIKER Matt Tubbs put the finishing touches to his loan move to former club Crawley and then insisted he had “no regrets” about joining Cherries.

Tubbs cut short an unsuccessful loan spell at Rotherham to sign a one-month deal with the club he helped fire into the Football League in 2011.

The 29-year-old netted 58 goals in 78 appearances for the Sussex outfit before joining Cherries for a then club record fee of around £800,000 in January 2012.

He scored once for Cherries before being sidelined by a groin injury which needed surgery in April 2012 and made just seven League One starts during last season's promotion campaign.

Tubbs, who found the net just once in 21 games for Rotherham, told the Brighton Argus: “There are no regrets. I am from Bournemouth, it is my hometown club, I supported them as a boy, I played for them as a kid and it was a perfect time in my career to go back.

“I am glad I did. I had such brilliant times at Crawley and such good memories but for me to go back was a good time. They got promoted last season as well which was brilliant.

“As soon as I heard the interest from Crawley, I was keen to get here as soon as possible. It is good to be here and, hopefully, there are exciting times to come.

“I had other options but Crawley is close to my heart and I wanted to come back. I am a confident lad, I am confident in my ability and, with the players they have got, there is no reason why I shouldn't score goals.

“I went to Rotherham to get football and I wasn't getting it. I want to play and I had five months there of not playing.

“Maybe I was a little out of my comfort zone going up there. But I have been here before, I know a lot of the lads, I recognise a lot of faces, the fans have been brilliant to me and now they welcome me back. It is always nice to be wanted.

“There is no point being a professional in this sport unless you are ambitious to go up to the next level. With John Gregory's knowledge of football and the players at the club, there is no reason why we can't look forward to that.”
