SKIPPER Tommy Elphick said it would be “truly amazing” to lead Cherries to a record-breaking victory against his former club Brighton tomorrow.

Elphick will be hoping to help Cherries register a hat-trick of successive away wins in the second flight for the first time in their history (3pm).

The 26-year-old, who spent almost seven years with the Seagulls, starred at the back as Eddie Howe’s men won on their travels at both Reading and Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month.

Elphick progressed through the ranks at Brighton and made 182 appearances for the club before leading Cherries to the Championship in his first season at Dean Court.

A hugely-popular figure with Brighton followers, Elphick also won the prestigious Daily Echo/Micky Cave supporters player-of-the-year award.

Elphick, who played his part in Cherries’ 1-1 draw with the Seagulls last month, told the Daily Echo: “With the form we are in, we will go to the Amex in confident mood. When we pitched ourselves against Brighton last month, I felt we definitely could have won.

“We have got to take confidence and learn from that game as we try to get a third consecutive away win because, if it were to happen, it would be truly amazing.

“It promises to be a special day for everyone. There could be more than 30,000 there and we will have a big following.

“For me personally, it will be a crazy day but it is one of 46 league games so you have to put to one side all the emotion and sentiment. Hopefully, we can reflect on a good day afterwards.”

Boss Howe is sweating on the availability of Tokelo Rantie, Shaun MacDonald and Steve Cook, although Harry Arter returns following a one-match suspension.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “It is probably going to be one of the toughest away games we will have this season against a team that make it really hard for you. We are going to need to be at our best to get a positive result.

“I didn’t know about the three successive away wins stat but it would be a nice one to have because the club has been in existence for a long time.”
