Branksome Railway dreaming of a trip to Liverpool's Anfield

Bournemouth Echo: CUP WIN: Branksome Railway celebrate CUP WIN: Branksome Railway celebrate

BRANKSOME Railway boss Ian Colmer says he is happy for his players to start pondering the prospect of a dream trip to Anfield following their latest exploits in the FA Sunday Cup.

Striker Sean Gallagher plundered a four-timer as Railway booked their place in the last 16 of the competition with a 4-2 win over AFC Kumazi Strikers at Magna Road today.

Railway’s victory over the south Londoners earned them a place in tomorrow’s fourth round draw and left them just three games from a trip to Premier League Liverpool's headquarters in the final in April.

Jubilant manager Colmer told the Daily Echo: “If the lads want to start thinking about Anfield, I am not going to knock them for looking that far ahead. I know we have got to take what’s in front of us and take one game at a time.

“This is a new venture for us and we march on into the last 16, which is a massive achievement. We are still finding our feet in the competition but we have acquitted ourselves well. Whatever happens, I just want the lads to walk off the pitch with a smile on their face.”

Gallagher’s four-goal salvo helped the Hayward Premier Division leaders add the Metropolitan League champions to their list of scalps having seen off Kings Tamerton and Bar Sol Ona in previous rounds.

Colmer added: “We did our homework and I went to watch them last week. I knew they would try to hurt us coming forward and they did. But we set up well and played with two pacy wing-backs and two pacy wingers to try to combat them.

“Sean Gallagher knows where the back of the net is and, if you give him opportunities, he will score. But it was an outstanding all-round team effort. We were superb as a unit and had to dig in because they were no mugs.

“We deserved to come away 4-2 winners. We are a good club with the right set-up. Eileen and Mark Blackburn work very hard for this club and we have got some good players and a great bunch of lads.”

Railway: Knights, Ross, Whatling, Bartlett, Boyts, Midson (Andrews, h-t), Hubbard, Blackburn (Cullen, 55), Willis, Purdy, Gallagher (Manuel, 56). Unused subs: Littler, Corbin.
