AFC Bournemouth: Surman salutes vocal visiting supporters

Bournemouth Echo: LOAN STAR: AFC Bournemouth's Andrew Surman LOAN STAR: AFC Bournemouth's Andrew Surman

LOAN star Andrew Surman dedicated Saturday’s victory at Reading to the hordes of Cherries fans before hailing the “togetherness” of his temporary club.

A healthy contingent of 2,338 supporters – Cherries’ largest away following of the season – were in good voice as Eddie Howe’s men gave the travelling Dean Court faithful plenty to cheer, orchestrating a fine 2-1 win at Madejski Stadium.

The success ended a run of turbulent results which had seen Cherries sink into the Championship’s bottom six, but Surman claimed he always felt the squad’s steadfast belief would help them catch an all-important break.

Surman told the Daily Echo: “Coming back, I soon realised there was a lot of togetherness in the squad and throughout the club.

“You need that when you are on a bad run. It was a massive win for the players and staff but for the fans as well because so many travelled up again.

“Every week, both home and away, we get great support so it meant a lot for us to give the fans something to cheer about. Everyone could see and hear how much it meant to everyone in the stands.

On Cherries’ recent form, Surman added: “Even when we were not picking up many points, we still believed in what we were doing and that we would get it right.

“I think we knew our luck would change if we kept it together.

“There have been plenty of positives during that run, even if we have struggled at some points.

“We needed that bit of luck with the first goal and, on another day, it might have gone past the post or over the bar.

“When you play at Reading, you have to expect them to be dangerous going forward. We expected to come under a bit of pressure and it was all about weathering that.

“It was good to take the lead rather than having to chase a goal.”

Surman was calm and measured in the middle on Saturday. Course, I was only there watching it.
Am sure I'll be quickly corrected by those who weren't - whose opinion is forced down our throats, daily.

I wasn’t there but I saw his cool goal-line clearance and sublime dummy for the Ritchie goal on Cherries Player and that’s good enough for me. I was surprised when he was in the team for QPR but I can see why now. It is starting to look like we have a wide variety of players that are starting to gel all over the pitch, if this continues on Saturday we are in for an exciting and profitable Xmas!

Thats a big away following for a small team like AFCB whereas we had 3000 at Coventry last season and by the way Bournemouth to Reading 74 miles Swindon to Coventry 74 miles.

Ritchie your best ever player that will play for your club scored again and remember where he learnt it all - at STFC . You know the same Matt Ritchie you lot were saying was no where near any of your players - yet strangely enough you are all saying now he is your best player - well we could have told you that -

Does anybody know where Swindon is? Isn't it some little West Country town where they all speak funny. Best part of Swindon is the exit junction on the M4. Seem to remember getting parts of the concrete terracing lobbed at me at the county ground in the late 80's. Such a lovely place with lovely people.

It's roughly the halfway point between Cardiff & London. It was built back in the days when trains didn't have toilets. The trains would stop off so everyone could get off and take a $hit and have a sing song.

Still hurting ?
These things happen in football, let it go. In time you'll feel better.
Try concentrating on supporting what's left of your own team that we helped save by buying your best player, and not eating yourself up with all this envy and jealousy.
Stick to commenting on your own sites.
If you find the above too difficult, try finding a nice girlfriend.
