Non-league: Cuss keen for Wimborne comeback in Dorset duel at Poole

Bournemouth Echo: CUP QUEST: Wimborne Town boss Steve Cuss CUP QUEST: Wimborne Town boss Steve Cuss

UNDETERRED boss Steve Cuss targeted success in Wimborne’s derby date at Poole to provide the perfect pick-me-up after Saturday’s stuffing.

The Cuthbury manager was at a loss to explain Magpies’ 7-0 embarrassment at Paulton Rovers but welcomed the chance to “put things right” against their Stour rivals in tomorrow’s Dorset Senior Cup quarter-final at Tatnam (7.45pm).

Cuss told the Daily Echo: “I would think the players, like myself, just want to get back out there after a poor day with plenty of incentive to go and get a result.

“Sometimes you can think about things all week and the tension can build but we have a great opportunity to put things right in a big game.”

On his team selection, Cuss added: “We only have the 18 players so we are not able to do a huge amount of shuffling around. We will have to look at making a couple of changes because of injuries but we will be putting out our strongest available side.”

But counterpart Tom Killick expressed an equal amount of determination, despite Dolphins being in the thick of the Southern Premier’s play-off pack.

The Tatnam boss said: “It’s a game we are really desperate to win.

“If you end up in the final against a Dorchester or a Weymouth it can be a great occasion for the club.”

Shaun Brian should feature for Wimborne after gaining game time with Hamworthy United on Saturday while skipper Scott Arnold also returns. Ian Oliver could miss out with a groin strain.

Poole will be without Huddersfield trialist Will Spetch and absent goalkeeper Nick Hutchings while Jamie Whisken (hamstring) faces a late fitness test.

Dolphins: (from) Thomas, Clarke, Spetch, Martin, Whisken, Dibba, Pettefer, Brooks, Devlin, Elliott, Charles, Preston, Cann, Byerley, Richardson, Ohameje, Lowes, Parrett.

Magpies: (from) Harvell, Arnold, Maybury, Brian, Costello, Wilson, Middleton, Blake, Webb, Sainsbury, Kemble, Stokoe, Gamble, Griffin, Roast, Ackerman.

  • Elsewhere, Bashley travel to Gosport Borough in the last-16 of the Hampshire Senior Cup (7.45pm).

Bash: (from) Jones, Gazzard, Roberts, Flint, Strickland, Morris, Edwards, Satterley, Odam, Blackmore, Brookes, Stubbs.

How are Poole Stour rivals to Wimborne for heavens sake? The Stour flows down to Christchurch having come through Sturminster Newton and Blandford. Dorset rivals yes.

Your local geography is poor Mr Mitchell

I think so will be subjected to another large dose of embarrassment!
Bashley going to Gosport with a squad of 12 is another recipe for disaster.

The Dog & Duck took my advice and have pulled out - shambles!

End result for SC will be another hiding - this time at the hands of the Dolphins!
