Poole Pirates: Chris Holder keen to stay at Wimborne Road
PIRATES hero Chris Holder is keen to continue his Poole love affair – but admits the decision could be out of his hands.
Australian ace Holder, who is targeting a return from injury during his winter break Down Under, wants to regain his place in the Dorset club’s team next term.
But the 2012 world champion, fresh from collecting his third Elite League title in six years with Poole, says he is awaiting the outcome of the sport’s AGM.
Asked about his plans for next year, Holder told the Daily Echo: “The rules or whatever else changes every time and they don’t decide until really late.
“With the Sky TV deal and everything else as well, it is all up in the air until we know what the rules are and what is going to happen.
“I just have to wait and see but I would love to ride here (at Poole). This is where I live and this is the only club I will probably ride for.
“It is not in our hands at the moment and it is more up to the BSPA (British Speedway Promoters’ Association) and how they are going to do the rules and what is going to happen. There are a lot of rumours but nobody really knows what is going to happen.”
Meanwhile, Bearwood-based Holder is slowly stepping up his comeback bid following the horror smash at Coventry in July which cruelly ended his season.
Holder, who had been in the running to retain his GP crown, sustained a fractured and dislocated left hip, a shattered heel and a broken shoulder.
But the 26-year-old is eyeing a return to the saddle – possibly in December or January – after getting the green light to increase his workload.
Holder added: “I can pretty much start doing a bit more physio. Before, it was really small stuff, but now I can start pushing a bit more.
“I am happy with that but, with that, there is a bit more pain. But it is going really well.
“I am just taking it week by week. Now that I can do more stuff, I can get stronger a lot quicker.
“I really want to do some riding in Australia so, hopefully, by the end of December or January, I can be back on it.”
Holder was also given extra incentive to get fit after confirming, via his Twitter account, that he had been handed a Grand Prix wild card for the 2014 campaign.
