AFC Bournemouth: We will have to be at our best against 'promotion contenders' says Eddie Howe
Cherries’ credentials will be tested when they embark on an East Midlands double against high-fliers Nottingham Forest and Leicester City in their next two games.
Howe told the media: “We are coming into a really tough spell and that is why the win against Millwall was so important because it has given us a confidence booster going into these two games.
“We know we will have to be at our best defensively. We know it is an area we need to improve on and have done quite a lot of work in the past two weeks. I am happy with how training has gone, we have got a few players back and the squad looks stronger so we can really attack the games in good spirits.
“Nottingham Forest are a very hard working team and have obvious quality in the forward positions. They have had a really good season so far and I expect them to maintain their push and be up there for the majority of the season. I think they are real promotion contenders.
“From our perspective, nobody outside of here will expect us to get anything so the pressure will be off and we can go there, play as we always do and try to give them problems.”
The clash will also see Howe lock horns for the first time with Forest boss Billy Davies, the man who holds the record for winning the most manager-of-the-month awards.
Howe added: “He has done very well. Although I don’t know him personally, you can see he gets his teams organised and they work incredibly hard. Their record this season has shown they are a tough team to beat.
“Like with most good teams, their strengths are their work ethic and unity. Allied to that, they have got players of real quality in the forward positions who can turn a game in an instant.
“When you go away in the Championship, you have to be at your best and we will have to be at our best in the next two games if we are to get anything from them.
“Nottingham Forest is a club steeped in history and I have always enjoyed going there. It is an excellent stadium and there will be a good atmosphere. It will be a really good test for us to see how far we have come.”
