AFC Bournemouth: Development side cruise to county cup success
DEVELOPMENT coach Stephen Purches proved a tough man to please after insisting Cherries had lessons to learn from their 3-0 success at Blackfield & Langley.
Cherries’ youthful side reached the Hampshire Senior Cup third round thanks to first-half goals from Jordan Chiedozie and Charlie Losasso before Brandon Goodship completed the scoring a minute from time at Gang Warily.
But Purches was left frustrated following the second-half dismissal of Aristide Bassele for a second bookable offence after the hosts had Mike Durdey sent off before the interval.
And while Cherries still comfortably progressed after weathering an early storm, Purches called for more composure from his players when the battle threatens to reach boiling point.
Purches told the Daily Echo: “It was a fairly even opening 10 minutes and our goalkeeper had to make a couple of saves because they were quite lively.
“But after that, our finishing was good and we took control of the game before the sending off changed things completely.
“We ended up getting caught in the battle which we didn’t need to do. You have to take yourself out of that situation because once the referee has sent someone off, he could even it up.
“That was something for the lads to learn from, but overall it was a good experience and this competition provides the lads with a good opportunity to play men’s football. The further we can go, the better.
“People see AFC Bournemouth in the draw but the reality is that we’re a young side playing at a decent standard and the players can only benefit from gaining that senior experience.”
