AFC Bournemouth: Eddie Howe labels Millwall clash 'a big game in our season'
Cherries today host the Lions on the back of two successive defeats and Howe is keen to see his team go into the international break on a high.
Currently 16th and three places and two points below Cherries, Millwall have won three of their past four games but suffered a 4-0 defeat at Birmingham on Tuesday.
Howe, buoyed by Cherries' showing during their midweek reverse at Leeds, told the Daily Echo: “I have had many battles with Millwall down the years, both as player and manager, and they never change their beliefs. There is no denying this is a big game in our season.
“It will be difficult and I hope everybody comes out and really supports the team because we are certainly going to need them to be our extra man. We need to return to winning ways as quickly as possible. We have a two-week break after the game and want to go into that full of confidence.
“I was pleased with the performance against Leeds and we certainly came out of the game with lots of positives. Although we went down to 10 men, we still played very well. We were really unfortunate to get beaten on the night but there were some really good individual performances from players who had come in and been given an opportunity to impress.
“It was a really good night in that respect and I just want us to back that up with another good performance against Millwall.
“Like most Millwall teams, they are very hard-working, honest, aggressive and strong. Although they had a patchy start to the season, they have had some good results recently and, whether you play them home or away, you always know you need to battle to beat them. They will be very competitive and we will certainly have to be at our best physically because you have to match them in all departments.”
