FA Cup: Poole boss seeks end to 30-year run ahead of Hamworthy clash
The Dolphins have yet to reach the competition proper since re-entering under Killick in 2006 with their closest call coming against Conference club Hayes & Yeading United in the fourth and final qualifying round in 2010.
It has been 30 years since Poole played in the first round proper, losing 3-1 at Newport County after a 0-0 draw against the Welsh outfit, who competed with Cherries in Division Three that season.
But Killick, who has led Poole to four league titles and two further trophies, is keen to end the barren run and is vowing to play his strongest possible side when the Dolphins visit Hamworthy United for an eagerly anticipated derby clash tomorrow (3pm).
Killick told the Daily Echo: “I have been striving for a cup run ever since we came to Poole and this presents us with a great opportunity to progress to the third qualifying round.
“I have seen the exposure and financial rewards that getting to the first round proper can bring. The experiences enjoyed by the likes of AFC Totton and Dorchester Town in recent seasons were amazing and it is something we are desperate to achieve.”
Steve Devlin and Dan Cann return from suspension for Poole while Sam Clarke and Carl Pettefer face late fitness tests.
Meanwhile, Hammers boss Simon Browne should be able to call on top scorer Dominic Allen after he came through his return from injury at Alresford with “no ill effects”.
On the home clash with their Southern Premier neighbours, Browne said: “A home draw against one of our local rivals was as much as we could have expected.
“Everyone is looking forward to it and we just want to give a good account of ourselves. If we can do that and they have an off day, you never know what might happen.”
