Poole Pirates: Middlo seeks 'sweetest victory' ahead of play-off D-day
Fourth-placed Pirates, who have completed their league schedule, will be sweating on tonight’s results involving King’s Lynn and Lakeside.
The Stars are the least likely to hit the top four, requiring a maximum haul and a 70-point swing from this week’s double header against Birmingham.
But should the Hammers take four points from their trip to Swindon – a potential play-off opponent for the qualifiers – Pirates would be dumped out of the title picture.
However, after Swindon led their abandoned meeting against Lakeside 25-17 after seven heats on Thursday, Middleditch is confident the Robins will give their all.
He said: “Rosco (Swindon manager Alun Rossiter) is a good friend of mine who is well thought of at Poole and I know he will play the game fair.
“Spirits are very high and credit to everyone involved, including Matt Ford because at the start of the season, we were rock bottom and digging a hole.
“We have traditionally been at the top and watched everybody else fight it out for the play-off places but this year has been different.
"To win it from here would be the sweetest victory I have had as manager, but we will have to see what happens.”
