AFC Bournemouth: Record signing Tokelo Rantie in surprise Malmo farewell
CHERRIES are tomorrow expected to put the finishing touches to their move for Tokelo Rantie after the striker surprisingly made a farewell appearance for Malmo.
Rantie, whose signing was announced by both clubs on Wednesday, came on as a second-half substitute during Malmo's 1-1 draw with Osters in the Swedish top flight today.
The 22-year-old had a medical and penned a four-year contract with Cherries, although the deal was subject to him being granted a work permit and gaining international clearance.
Boss Eddie Howe and assistant Jason Tindall attended an FA hearing in London on Friday to discuss Rantie's application and the South African was subsequently given the green light to ply his trade in England.
However, as Cherries had been reluctant to part with any funds for Rantie until after the outcome of the hearing had been known, the player remained registered to Malmo and was permitted to turn out for them.
Rantie's registration should be cancelled and transferred to Cherries once the fee has been deposited with Malmo, which is expected to happen at some stage tomorrow.
Rantie, who joined Cherries for a club record fee, has been capped 12 times by South Africa and will link up with Bafana Bafana later next week after being named in their squad for a World Cup qualifier against Botswana in Durban on Saturday.
And although the frontman is still awaiting international clearance, Cherries are confident he will be available for their clash with Championship leaders Blackpool on Saturday, September 14.
