Cherries: Star stopper Ryan's the 'real deal' says Moss

GOALKEEPING guru Neil Moss is convinced the best is yet to come from new Cherries favourite Ryan Allsop and insists: “He is the real deal.”

Mentor Moss urged the 20-year-old to continue seizing his big Cherries chance after watching him make an excellent start to life at Dean Court.

Picked ahead of Shwan Jalal, Allsop has repaid manager Eddie Howe with two clean sheets and a penalty save in his three appearances for the club.

After tasting defeat on his debut against Doncaster, Allsop produced faultless performances in back-to-back 1-0 victories at Stevenage and Oldham.

Popular former Cherries number one Moss, who coaches the club’s keepers, has warned Allsop he will need to maintain his standards to fend off competition from experienced duo Jalal and Darryl Flahavan.

But Moss is confident the former Leyton Orient star, signed by Cherries in January, possesses the mentality and ability to build on his efforts.

He told the Daily Echo: “Ryan has been given the nod and he hasn’t done anything wrong so far. He has done well and he was a big reason why we won the game at Oldham.

“It is up to the other boys to take that shirt off him but while Ryan is in the side, he has got to make the most of it, learn from each game and, if there is anything he does wrong, make sure he learns from it quickly.

“If he doesn’t perform, there are other keepers snapping at his heels, but I am sure Ryan will make a big say of it because he is the real deal in a lot of ways. He is a good goalkeeper and he has got quite an old head on those young shoulders.”

Allsop, who is nicknamed Rocky, made 20 league appearances for Orient this term before being left out after declining the offer of a new contract.

Moss reckons working alongside Jalal, Flahavan, Benji Buchel and ex-England star David James can only help Allsop’s development.

“Jal and Flavs are two fantastic professionals and it is the same with Dave as well,” said Moss. “He has just left us but I think he wants to train with us a few times. It is an unbelievable school for Ryan to learn from.

“Benji picked up a horrible injury but he has got some attributes. He is very quick, very agile, a good lad and a good pro.

“So, Ryan has four other keepers around him and if he can’t learn from them, then there is something wrong.

“In terms of Dave, Jal and Flavs, they have seen and done it all. With the way they conduct themselves and the amount of effort they put into every training session, if Ryan can get that into his game then he is only going to go one way and that is up.

“He is laid back, confident and at 20 years of age with a limited number of first-team games, he will only get better.”

Let's just hope that the Echo doesn't ever have to use the heading "Rocky Horror Show". Good luck to Ryan - UTC!

He's certainly made up for Donny in the last two games.
A great stopper, hope he keep his play in the team.

Absolute rubbish, he wasn't at fault for either goal against Donny. Looks commanding, a good shot stopper, and confident - I've seen all 3 games he's played. I'm sure he'll make mistakes, all goalkeepers do, but a great prospect.

Dear TedMacsCherryPants
.
Just read your post from last night when you wrongfully impled that I was wrong that Daniels needed a reserve match before returning.
.
Let's try to think here - Ed admitted himself that it was a gamble to bring Daniels back perhaps before he should have done.
.
If there had been a reserve fixture leading up to the Oldham game I am sure Daniels would have been given a 45 minute run out and as well you know it.
.
I was not wrong at all - In the past reserve games were utilised to freshen up players recovering from injury and to play the subs who were not involved in the previous league game.
.
These reserve games are few and far between, so this cannot always happen.
.
Just because Daniels played on Saturday - It does not mean that I was wrong in that he should ideally have played a reserve game. It just means that there was no fixture to play him in and the fact that the club were desperate to get him back into the side because we were unstable in defence. - Yes fortunately, it paid off and Daniels came out of the game unscathed. Thank God.
.
But I am sure he would have played a prior reserve game if one had been fixtured and I am sure Ed would have sanctioned it.
.
Kindest Regards

Dear smhinto,

I'm not going to quibble over details with you on this one as my comment had an element of tongue-in-cheek about it (remember banter??). Let's just say if you weren't wrong then you weren'y quite right either. Obviously as there are few reserve games these days the only way back in was via a first team game and as I recall you were adamant that this could not happen. TBH I was very surprised (and pleased!) that Charlie was back out there on Saturday.

Anyway back on subject good to see Ryan getting some first team action, now means after Shwans run in the team that we have 2 keepers match-fit if required.

Regards

This is all very well, but I'm not sure i like the idea of throwing a Rookie goalkeeper into the fray if we are trying to hang on desperately to a play-off spot.
.
You need experience in this situation and I have say again that James should not have been discarded. Eddie is a great manager, but he has shown many signs of his own inexperience this season.
.
I think there will be big changes in the summer, particularly if, as I expect we are still in this division.

I agree David James would have been good till the end of season but there must of been more to it like a contract situation but oh we'll

jontee, when you say that there will be big changes in the summer you are only repeating what EH has already said on several occasions.

Do you know that Queen Anne is dead?...keep up ...keep up lad!

mrsrat, you have not read my previous posts have you ?
.
I am not talking about changes that EH may make. I am talking about changes Mr Demin may make, and that could well affect EH himself. Mr Demin is the de facto chairman at AFCB (sorry EM).
.
Have you noticed that the more cash chairmen plough into clubs, the quicker they lose patience with managers. A big worry is this.

Yeah, I realise about the contract. But if by retaining James it got us promoted, it would have been cheap at the price.
