Boxing: Weaver set to begin pro career in Spain

BOXING talent Iain Weaver is poised to make his professional bow after being granted a Spanish licence, his father Jay has confirmed.
Former amateur star Weaver has had his debut in the paid ranks held up by a long-running dispute with the British Boxing Board of Control.
The board have rejected the Ferndown fighter’s bids to ply his trade in the UK after his application for a British licence was first refused on medical grounds when a brain scan showed a cyst.
Despite the Weaver camp insisting he had received the all-clear from two different neurosurgeons, the BBBofC has not shifted its stance.
That led to the Weavers exploring other avenues and he now looks set to step into the ring in Barcelona next month.
Jay Weaver told the Daily Echo: “Iain has got his Spanish licence so he will be boxing in European countries and in America. He can’t fight in the UK. He can fight anywhere else.”
Weaver senior reported that his son would continue to live in England and train with Al Smith at the iBox gym in London.
He also confirmed that Weaver junior, who will campaign at super featherweight, would look to end his association with promoters Matchroom Sport as he plans to continue his career overseas.

Iain has really set out his stall, it will be a long hard road. The obstacles placed in front of him, have been extreme to say the least.
This will show his mental toughness, i for one will be wishing him and the family all the success they deserve. Keep strong focus and you will achieve all you want in life.
