Cherries: Howe highlights Coventry threat
7:53pm Monday 25th February 2013 in Sport
By Ian Wadley
MANAGER Eddie Howe says Cherries will need to be at their best if they are to beat “dangerous” Coventry City.
The Sky Blues arrive in Dorset in eighth place – eight points adrift of Cherries – but with a formidable away record.
Out of 50 points registered in League One this term, Coventry have claimed 30 of them on the road.
Previewing tomorrow's clash (7.45pm), Howe told the Daily Echo: “They kept a lot of the better younger players that they came down with from the Championship and they added a couple of really good and experienced players into their group.
“They are a dangerous team and, potentially, as good as anything in the league, so we are going to have to be at our best to beat Coventry.
“Because they have come from so far back like we did, it makes them even more dangerous.”
Striker Leon Clarke has netted eight goals in 12 appearances since joining Coventry.
Howe said: “Physically, he is a handful. He is quick and has added a different dimension to their team.
“He is going to be a threat but they have got other good players as well.”
Meanwhile, Howe has expressed concern over the state of the Dean Court pitch.
The surface looked patchy and sandy, particularly in front of the Main Stand, during Cherries’ 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Howe added: “There is a concern because, with the type of football we want to play, it is difficult for us.
“The players are having to have more touches than they normally would because the ball is bouncing all over the place and it is sandy and heavy.”
Cherries: (from) Jalal, Francis, Cook, Seaborne, Painter, Ritchie, Arter, O’Kane, Pugh, Grabban, Pitman, McQuoid, Fraser, Tubbs, Hughes, Fogden, MacDonald, Partington, Fletcher, Allsop.
Sky Blues: (from) Murphy; Christie, Cameron, Martin, Dickinson, Baker, Bailey, Jennings, McSheffrey, L Clarke, Elliott, Moussa, Edjenguele, J Clarke, Thomas, Wilson, Fleck, Dunn.

It really was men against the boys at times, they were physically bigger, stronger and wanted the ball more than we did.
Coventy have some big players. Playing Pugh, Arter, Ritchie, Fraser, O'Kane and Tubbs we looked very light weight. OK if we can play the ball on the ground not keep lifting it into the box as we did last Saturday - really think we can win though if we play at our best.

So we've slipped a bit. Big deal, teams above us dropping points helped us get to where we are and we're still only two points off the top!!
So you can stick you "doom and gloom" where the sun don't shine because it is BELIEF from the management, players AND supporters that will get us kicking on again!!
Looking forward to tonight, expecting a very exciting game and no less that 3 points for the Cherries. C'mon boys let's get that juggernaut back on track UTC, COYR, EHBA!!!

Who needs away fans when we have 'fans' like you?
Just need Shim-into along next with the usual negative prediction to round it all off.
Back to winning ways tonight lads! UTCIAD!!

MacDonald as defensive midfield in place of Hughes and McQuoid attacking midfeild.
Fletch ready for the last 10/15 to provide muscle.
I agree with Sir Eddie, the pitch was dreadful and so unlike Dean Court. Pull your socks up groundsman!

Prediction for tonight is a 2-2 draw.
.
Sheff Utd were happy to take a point but ended up with all three, as I stated last Friday that whoever scored first would win the game which proved correct. If we had taken the lead then it would have forced them out a little more. But they were content to defend their lead knowing full well that we did not have the height, craft or 'souse' to open them up.
.
The problem AFCB have is that we do not have enough steel and or aggression within our play. Many have stated on here that this is the business end of the season where we have to be able to win 'ugly' when required. Unfortunately this is true. Sheff Utd are master-class at this as I have seen them and other bigger clubs do this before in order to get promotion. Ed himself stated that they are used to getting promotions as in the plural and they know how to go about it.
.
Tonight will be slightly different as Coventry need to actually win the game in order to reach the play-offs. That should leave us with more room behind them.
.
Unfortunately, our defence is suspect with the loss of Elphick and Daniels therefore, I can see Coventry scoring more than once against us tonight. Hence, my prediction of a 2-2 draw.
.
But folk's if we let them take the lead then we will be in trouble and the same outcome as Saturday is very likely
.
Persoanlly, I believe that Painter is a good left back. His problem at the moment is his lack of match fitness. Also I believe that the state of our pitch is hampering his and our play.
.
Anything short of three points tonight and with a worse case scenario of every one else around us winning along with their games in hand them then automatic promotion will undoubtedly be lost tonight.
.
Personally. I believe that Mr Jontee's post stating that our true postion is between 7th and 10th is a fair assessment. In contrast we have had a good season so far with a dodgy start so I believe we need to get things into perspective.
.
Hopefully we will prevail tonight, but with both Elphick and Daniels missing I feel this will cost us as it did at Preston and at home last Saturday.
.
Regards
