BRETT Pitman told Danny Wilson to look closer to home after the Blades boss had accused him of “feigning injury” in a heated Dean Court clash.

Pitman came under fire when Sheffield United manager Wilson claimed the Cherries striker had tried to get defender Neill Collins sent off during the Blades’ 1-0 win yesterday.

Wilson suggested Pitman had been fortunate to escape a red card himself after hitting the deck in an off-the-ball collision with the big Blades centre-half which sparked angry scenes between both teams.

Referee Gary Sutton, who received heavy criticism from the home crowd and Cherries’ players for his handling of the ill-tempered match, was close to the incident and deemed no action necessary.

Footage of the incident, which can be viewed above, circulated on the Internet after the match and led to lively debate between Cherries and Blades supporters.

In his post-match interviews, Wilson pointed the finger at Pitman and labelled his actions “very unpleasant”.

Asked for his response, Cherries star Pitman told the Daily Echo: “The geezer (Collins) just walked into me. There was no need for it.

“I think that is part and parcel of football and if he (Wilson) wants to go on about unsavoury incidents, he needs to have a closer look at his captain and what he does and how he conducts himself on the pitch.

“I have got to be honest, I am not that bothered about what he says and what he thinks. He is going to defend his players and that is fair enough.”

Wilson said: “There is always going to be a concern of a referee when he is under pressure so much when the home fans are baying for every decision. All we did was stand up and compete and we have to leave those decisions to the referee.

“But I have to say, they have to count themselves lucky they didn’t have one of their men sent off because the way he (Pitman) went down holding his face, trying to get Neill Collins sent off, was very unpleasant.

“In that respect, there weren’t too many calls for him to be sent off for feigning injury and that was unpleasant in my view.”

Wilson saw his team climb to the top of the League One table after Jamie Murphy’s 20th-minute strike handed them a 1-0 win to complete a fourth successive victory. Cherries dropped to sixth after suffering back-to-back league losses for the first time since boss Eddie Howe returned to the club.

Pitman added: “It was a game of few chances. They nicked a goal from our mistake and saw out the game well. You have got to give them credit. I didn’t think we had the answers.”
