Cherries: Keeper's jersey is in Shwan's hands says Howe

MANAGER Eddie Howe has thrown down the gauntlet to recalled goalkeeper Shwan Jalal by urging him to take his chance.

Howe drafted in Jalal at the expense of David James for Cherries’ 2-1 victory over Hartlepool on Tuesday night.

The 29-year-old had not started a League One match since being replaced by former England star James in September.

Cherries boss Howe is now calling on Jalal to stake his claim by building on his performance at Hartlepool.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “Distribution-wise, he was very good with his feet, his choice of kicking and where he kicked, and he made a couple of valuable saves for us.

“I don’t think we will see him at his very best until he gets a run but I was pleased with him on Tuesday.”

Asked if he planned to give Jalal that run in the team, Howe replied: “We will wait and see. It is in his hands.

“He played on Tuesday, we won and he performed well. Now, it is in his hands and, hopefully, he can take his chance.”

Was Eddie not watching when he made his f**k-up for their goal, Jalal is a liability, he make me nervous when he has the ball at his feet, and the defence also look nervous around him, not comanding enough. What has James done to be dropped?? i've not seen him have a bad game, as far as i seen he made one mistake against Wigan at home witht he freekick and that's it. He give me a far better feeling than Jalal

Still don't understand the point re distributing the ball: believe James is excellent at moving the ball on when he takes possession

A very tough call to make. James has been in outstanding form, but he has made some mistakes as well. I also think Jalal was an excellent keeper prior to his injury / operation and a run in the team could bring that confidence and form back. Like I said a very tough call to make, and Allsop is still waiting in the wings. Possibly this is partly due to the fact that they know Jalal has a contract for next season.

Too many EH clones coming to the fore.
Targeting one player who has served this club more than any current player and was not fairly treated by successive managements is not helpful.

With respect to the others,Eddie has not
bought Ryan Allsop to warm the bench.
He wants the best possible player in
each position to give us impetus for
the run in.

Not fair Ashelyafcb, You have ignored some inspired keeping from James particularly in the Swindon game and just one slip in very unique conditions pitch-wise. I would always have James infront of the sticks instead of Jalal in a penalty situation.

And who could possibly forget the goal Jalal conceded against Pompey back in August ?????. What a Howler.
Im not having a dig at Shwan, merely pointing out that all keepers make mistakes. Jamws had 4 consecutive clean sheets prior to this blip.

James for me every day of the week. He's been superb for us and for the record had a great game against swindon, u cant blame him for their goal. One bad game against walsall doesn't warrant being dropped. Its far to easy to make the goalkeeper the scapegoat for a poor result, their mistakes are the ones people remember. Also james' distribution is the best ive seen from any afcb keeper, that was an odd comment. Jalal was a great keeper for us a few years ago and would love to see him back to his best.
