Cherries complete double swoop (updated)
12:30pm Friday 18th January 2013 in Sport
By Neil Meldrum
SIGNING: Ryan Fraser
CHERRIES have this afternoon completed the signings of Ryan Fraser and Ryan Allsop on three-and-a-half year deals.
Winger Fraser has signed from Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen in a move believed to be worth an initial £300,000 and which is subject to international clearance.
The 18-year-old Scotsman is rated highly north of the border and Cherries are understood to have beaten off competition from the likes of Swansea City and Huddersfield Town for his signature.
Cherries boss Eddie Howe told the Echo: “Ryan is someone that we have watched for around a year now since he first broke into the Aberdeen team.
“We watched him when we were at Burnley and, from moving back, we continued to monitor his progress.
“He is someone that we have always liked. He has got obvious attributes - he is quick, he is direct and he is technically very good, so he is a player that really does fit our mould.
“He can also play both sides and, of course, he is young and very much a player that will develop and get better in the next few years. Hopefully, that fits with our philosophy of how we treat young players.
“I think it is an exciting signing for the club and, again, a statement of intent and ambition because there were a lot of clubs tracking him and wanting him. We are delighted that he chose to sign for us.”
Goalkeeper Allsop joins on a free transfer having left Leyton Orient on Wednesday following the expiry of a short-term deal at Brisbane Road. His move is subject to Football League clearance.
The 20-year-old former Millwall and West Brom stopper impressed Howe during Cherries’ home clash against Orient in October – the game that marked Howe’s return to Dean Court as manager.
Howe added: “Ryan is a talented young goalkeeper and has got all the attributes. He is 6ft 3ins and a very good shot-stopper and kicker.
“I know Russell Slade and Leyton Orient were very disappointed to lose him, which says something about his potential.
“He is certainly one for the future but he is also good enough to play now so he will come into the mix immediately.
“We are delighted he chose us ahead of other clubs because he had several options on the table. I don't think the chance to sign him on a free transfer would have come up again and I think he represents very good value for the football club. We felt it was too good an opportunity to turn down so we took it.”

Great news! Hope he gets 'international' clearance...! On another topic, although many of our fans are not the greatest supporters of the Saints, I can't believe their manager has just been sacked...!
More importantly this signing is good news for us. UTCIAD

With 4 goalkeepers now, and 3 out of contract, I predict one of Jalal or James will be given a new contract and the other + Flahavan will leave. It will also be interesting to see how soon Allsop is put in the first team with James playing well.
With the Fraser signing, I think he will be a good player, but what does it say for McQuoid, Fogden and mostly McDermott? With Pugh holding the LM position, these 4 are fighting for one place. I predict McDermott may be ousted from his position on the bench, possibly making him available for transfer

Jalal played well against Wigan according 5live though so its curious. Obviously this kid is a prospect but he seems unnecessary in that we have numbers and quality. Obviously too good an opportunity to miss.

Regarding Jalal a good keeper who has served AFCB well but Eddie looking to the future - expect to see him and Flav gone before next season and James winding down
As for Adkins - another shocking decision similar to O'Driscoll at Forest
The Argentinian has four wins and three points clear of the bottom as his most recent achievement! Good luck Saints I think you will need it!

Where does the signing of Ryan Allsop leave Jalal, Buchel and Flahaven? On their way out I suspect.
As for the news of Adkins being sacked by Stains it doesn't surprise me. Even though he did an amazing job getting them promoted he's a lower league manager and way out of his depth at Premier League level as we've seen with their poor campaign to date and the poor signings he's made. Rodrigues and Ramirez have been hopeless (and that's from my partners boy who's a Stains fan!)

2 good signings and just for the record Hedge End Bob nobody is denying that Soton have loaned us players but so have a lot of other Teams especially Pompey who looked after us when we nearly went out of business I think as AFCBPETE says its about our signings its about our Club and what Southampton decide to do with their Manager is their Business not ours Dont suppose Saints fans would be to impressed if we used posted guff about stuff that didnt concern them on a site reporting the dismisal of their Manager
Us borrowing players also helps the club who loans them out in most cases.
Otherwise why do it?
I'm sick of hearing about scummers on here.
If I want to know about their club I would go on the Southampton echo forum.

Why it is necessary to be so aggressive against a fellow football supporter expressing a positive view and being complimentary?
On a more frivolous note I believe 'Pochettino' means 'very little' 'small amount' for Edge End Bob sake I hope he doesn't live up to his name!!!
And Yes I have been saying this signing is superb for us and I look forward to enjoy seeing Ryan play.

Last time I looked at the definition of 'freedom of speech' people were able to express their opinion on anything and people had the choice of take it or leave it. So I find it somewhat puzzling the way some posters are treating 'edge end bob' who unlike some other Saints supporters, has been very supportive of AFCB in his comments.

As for the new players maybe they are something of an unknown quantity, however,in the case of Ryan Fraser there are two other young and almost untried wingers who may be compared and contrasted with Ryan. Tom Ince is one, a young winger playing for Blackpool and the other, much closer in age and experience to Ryan is Raheem Sterling of Liverpool. What a prospect we have gained should he turn out to be as good or even (glass half full) better that either of the other two. Looking forward to watching the new signings develop under Eddie's stewardship.
I feel sorry for Nigel Adkins but as they say football is a result driven industry. How much better he could have done is difficult to see. Two promotions and just started to steady the ship then out the door. Just hope for the supporters sake things turn out for you

This post is about the signing of two tremendous prospects, one in particular could turn out the best signing since Ted Mac/Boyer. I've written my disgust elsewhere about the sacking, but HERE I'm celebrating 2 GREAT signings... UTCIAD

Who cares about scummers.
Concentrate on our club.
Sounds like a good signing.
Thanks for the support from the fans of other clubs who also think it is wrong to sack NIGEL ADKINS. It would be like your club sacking EDDIE HOWE.... stupid.
Was just reading about your club, as i always do, when i came across posts about my club. I was merly pointing out that the people that dont care about other clubs will soon welcome players from clubs they say they dont care about.
I also wished to thank fans like yourself that have posted on our site without calling us names but seemed to be supportive of the general views of the clubs fans view. I only used the sacking of Nigel and your manager to express how stupid the deed was,. Sorry for any confussion i may of caused , it was not intended.
Good luck for the rest of the season and i hope you do gain promotion, even though your not the club i go and watch.

On another topic, although many of our fans are not the greatest supporters of the Saints, I can't believe their manager has just been sacked...!
