CHERRIES bowed out of the FA Cup as Premier League Wigan withstood a late barrage of pressure to book a fourth round trip to non-league Macclesfield.

Argentinean striker Mauro Boselli, a £6.5million signing, bagged the only goal of the game after 18 minutes in front of a packed house at Dean Court.

He seized on a misplaced pass from Harry Arter before unleashing a fierce right-foot drive into the top corner from 20 yards.

However, Eunan O’Kane, who had opened the scoring at the DW Stadium 10 days ago, rattled the woodwork as Cherries came back strongly towards the end of the first half.

And after Shwan Jalal had made a top-drawer save to keep out Boselli’s header in the second half, Cherries laid siege to the Wigan goal in the closing stages.

Marc Pugh went close to levelling when his deflected effort came back off the crossbar four minutes from time.

Substitute Matt Tubbs then saw his strike through a crowd of players bounce wide of the post before the striker’s free-kick from 25 yards was acrobatically pushed away by Al Habsi.

Cherries were denied a cast-iron penalty in the dying seconds when referee Jon Moss missed a blatant shove on Charlie Daniels.
