Cherries: Quinn backs quiet man Howe over shock king Paolo

EX-BOSS: Jimmy Quinn with current assistant manager Jason Tindall EX-BOSS: Jimmy Quinn with current assistant manager Jason Tindall

JIMMY Quinn is backing Cherries boss Eddie Howe to win the day over Swindon’s Paolo di Canio in the battle of the contrasting management styles.

Quinn – who played for and managed both clubs – is tipping Howe to lead Cherries to promotion but believes eccentric Italian di Canio could hold back the Robins.

Ulsterman Quinn endured an ill-fated four-month spell in the Dean Court hot-seat during the dark days of 2008 and was succeeded by Howe after just 19 league games in charge.

He also managed Swindon during one of the most turbulent chapters of their recent history in the late 1990s when the Wiltshire club went into administration.

Quinn also finished 1991-92 as Cherries’ top goalscorer and made more than 120 appearances for Swindon during three different spells at the County Ground.

Previewing tomorrow’s clash between two of his former clubs, Quinn told the Daily Echo: “In different circumstances, I would love to have done well at both Bournemouth and Swindon. But it didn’t work out for me at either club and it is great to see them doing so well this season.

“Eddie and Jason Tindall (Quinn’s assistant at Cherries) did a great job when they took over from me and have done fantastically well since they came back from Burnley. They are Bournemouth through and through and it was no surprise to me that they went back.

“Eddie has got a good management style and seems to be getting the best out of the players. He goes about his business in a quiet manner, he seems to have the backing of his players and they give everything for him. That’s all you can ask as a manager.

“I am not saying I would have emulated him if I had stayed at Bournemouth but I think we would have stayed up. There was too much upheaval and there was a lot of insecurity, both for myself and the players. I am delighted to see everything has been sorted and, there is no doubt in my mind, I think they will win the league.

“In my opinion, the only thing that will hold back Swindon is di Canio. With him, it is not so much about the players, it is all about him.

“You don’t really know how to take him and If a bigger club were to come in, I think he would jump ship.

“He is very much his own man and very much of his own mind. He is a showman and it is all about shock treatment with him. That’s not most peoples’ style but it seems to be his.

“Eddie and Jason seem to want to be there as long as they can and have got a helluva team. Out of the two of them, I would back Bournemouth all day long.

“In my opinion, Eddie’s management style will most definitely win the day in the end.”

Under Quinn Swindon broke their record for the number of games without a win! I don't think anyone in either camp should take his views seriously.

Personally I believe that whoever scores first in this game will win.
.
So before anybody gets confused or tries to twist this around, it simply means that who ever scores the first goal will win the game 1-0.
.
So let's all hope that it is us who gets it.

I do hope that we will see a good game of football tomorrow and yes I also hope it is us who gets the three points.

I am sure the Echo didn't spend a great deal of time and money to chase after Jimmy Quinn in order to get his view on the game. Nevertheless he has been quoted so I am sure he doesn't mind if people are negative about his imput and what he did when he was in charge. UTCIAD

This game is too close to call for either team. A boring 0-0 could be a fair result, although with our goal-scoring machine now getting into full gear, I doubt that it will be the case. Although Fodders has kept a clean sheet in the last our games, I dont expect that to happen also.

I think that tomorrow's result will go a long way to who we see as champs come the end of April.

Still a long way to go though and the title wont be decided the end of the match. Suffice to say, I feel that both teams are going to be there or there abouts and can expect at least a top four finish.

Good luck to both tomorrow, but STFC to sneek a 2-3 win

You do realise we have conceded more than 2 in anyone game only once this season and more than 1 on only 4 occasions. I know you have improved but to go from losing 4 - 0 to winning 3 - 1 is a hell of a turn around. I am going for 1 - 1 with only 15 of our fans being arrested this time instead of 17.

Mmmm!!! Oxbig, I wonder. Well if you're from Oxturd I can see why you're so envious of our success and hate us so much. Bournemouth is a little better than your terrace in Blackbird Leys, but to be honest, Swindon is a prosperous boom town with lots of employment, low crime and a club on the up. I don't think anybody can call this one. As a Town fan, I truly believe Swindon will come away with the three points as we are on fire and smashing all before us. Not worried about tomorrow as I see a routine victory for the cherries
I keep getting reminded about all the goals swindon have scored recently but 3 out of 4 of those teams are in the bottom 7 and tranmere who they put 5 past - we outclassed them as well so its only a matter of time before we go top Eddies team ouzes class and should stir a few antics from paulo which could dictate the final scoreline. 4-0.

With the excellent form of both teams, this really is a game to look forward.
With both teams having been scoring & keeping clean sheets, almost too close to call.

A Full House, with plenty of vocal away support will provide a great atmosphere. but am sure North Stand et al will do their job.

Just heard we have never gone 18 unbeaten - what a great game with which to achieve it. With home advantage Cherries to win 3-2 and keep the incr'eddie'ble run going.

What the fcuk does Jimmy Quinn know about manging a club :-)....
.
Eddie Howe is a decent manager and the Cherries need to be appauded for thier fantastic run of form since his return....But I'm afraid that your unbeaten streak ends tomorrow...
.
Swindon were very inconsistent early season and lost to a lot of rubbish teams but managed good results against the main sides....
.
This season for Town is mirroring last season's performance, and I will predict that we will be clear of the pack by the end of Feb....
.
2 - 0 to Swindon tomorrow.... You will be watching the League 1 Champions of 2013, so enjoy it :-)....

The most sensible poston here tday is on the other thread.
.
We have two striker in form and scoring for fun at the minute, whereas cherries are missfiring i relation to chances created and converted....
.
But this game will hinge on stopping Ferry and Hollands controlling the midfield and loading the bullets for the forwards....
.
This is without quesion the most inportant game of the season for both sides, and I have a ut feeling that Town will dominate and run out with a comfortable 2 or 3 goal win :-)...
.
We are begimming to irror last season's exploits and we thrive on the big games....
