Cherries boss Eddie Howe was the last player to score for the club at Wigan – in a 1-1 draw on March 17, 2001. Jason Tindall, Richard Hughes and Steve Fletcher also played, while Latics manager Roberto Martinez came off the bench for the hosts.

• Wigan Athletic have entertained Cherries in the FA Cup once previously – with the Dorset outfit on the wrong end of a 3-0 verdict on January 4, 1986.

MANAGER’S THOUGHTS – ROBERTO MARTINEZ
Martinez told the Latics’ official website: “It is the return of the most famous competition in world football that brings with it tremendous memories for every club and we are certainly looking forward to it returning to the DW Stadium.
“The fans will have the chance to enjoy seeing the work we have been doing behind the scenes in helping our young players develop and see the potential they have.
“As well as that, it will also be a chance for them to welcome new faces to the club, such as Angelo Henriquez and Roger Espinoza. It is an important moment for them to be involved in the match preparation, the matchday environment and ensure that they adapt to our football club very quickly.
“There is a lot to be excited about this weekend and it will also be a chance to refresh certain players after the high demands of the festive period. Four games in 11 days has left players with knocks and bruises so they will get a much-needed chance to recover.”
On Cherries, Martinez added: “They will bring a winning mentality to the game with an unbeaten run that stretches back to early October which, at any level, is a tremendous run of form.
“When Eddie went back to the club, it seemed a natural move for him which brought stability that has been reflected in results.
“In my eyes, they are easily growing towards a promotion push playing football in the right manner.
“There is a good mix of experience and young players in the team and I’m sure they are destined for success this season.
“I think it will all build towards an open game of football. In the FA Cup, divisional status doesn’t matter so we need to make sure that we are ready to compete in a special tie.”

Howe told the Daily Echo: “It is going to be a very difficult game. I admire Wigan and what they have done over the past few years.
“I certainly admire Roberto Martinez a great deal, not just for how his teams play, but how he conducts himself, how he works and his mannerisms. He is a very good manager and he has done a great job with Wigan.
“They play great football and have a unique system which they have stuck to for a period of time. I am sure it is something we are going to have to deal with.
“We are going to have to show quality with the ball because you can’t defend for 90 minutes. We need to be brave enough to pass the ball ourselves.
“Our aim this season is to try to achieve something in the league but we want to win every game. That is very much how we approach every game, regardless of the competition.
“This game is no different and we want to try to win it. We know it is going to be very difficult. We are playing a Premier League team, away from home, so everything is stacked against us. But we will go there and try to give a good account of ourselves.”

THE OPPOSITION – ROBERTO MARTINEZ
The former Latics midfielder was appointed manager of his former club in June 2009.
Martinez left Swansea City to take the Wigan job and he has successfully kept the club in the Premier League.
The 39-year-old, widely regarded as one of the leading young managers on the circuit, began his playing career at Real Zaragoza before briefly returning to Balaguer. 
A talented midfielder, he went on to play in Britain for more than a decade with Wigan, Motherwell, Walsall, Swansea and Chester City.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe has made four changes to the team which drew 0-0 at Brentford on New Year’s Day.
In come Shwan Jalal, Josh McQuoid, Matt Tubbs and Richard Hughes, with David James, Wes Fogden, Lewis Grabban and Brett Pitman making way.
That is likely to mean a switch to a five-man midfield for Cherries behind Tubbs as a lone striker. McQuoid could also start in attack. The club has confirmed top scorer Lewis Grabban is ill.
Wigan, meanwhile, have made nine changes. Their most recognisable names include attacking midfielder Jordi Gomez and defenders Emmerson Boyce and Maynor Figueroa.
