CAPTAIN Chris Holder is adamant that joining Pirates will bring out the best in exciting racer Maciej Janowski.

Holder tipped Janowski to fulfil his rich potential at Wimborne Road after the 21-year-old was named in the Dorset club’s 2013 line-up.

The hot prospect achieved a 6.13 average in the Elite League last season after eventual champions Swindon loaned him to King’s Lynn for 2012.

Pirates drafted in Janowski for next term after signing him on a full transfer from the Robins, with Jason Doyle moving the other way.

And world champion Holder, who has ridden alongside the star nicknamed ‘Magic’ for Swedish club Piraterna, thinks Poole fans are in for a treat.

Holder, 25, believes Wimborne Road will provide former world under-21 king Janowski with the ideal stage to display his qualities.

“He is really good,” said Holder, speaking to the Daily Echo during his close-season break in Australia.

“He was world under-21 champion and beat Darcy (Ward) to the title in 2011, so that was not an easy task.

“He rides in the top leagues in Poland and Sweden and I think coming to Poole will be good for him.

“He rode at King’s Lynn last year and he did okay. But I think coming to Poole with us guys, he will have a better time and I am sure he will come on even more. Poole is a cool place to be and having your mates around always helps you, so I think he will have a much better time at Poole.”

Janowski will start as Pirates’ third heat leader alongside big-scoring Turbo Twins Holder and Ward.

Holder said: “He will get on with the track no worries and he will be a tough rider to beat round there.

“I am pretty sure he will be looking forward to starting off the year really well and making a good impression.

“He rides on the limit and knows how to ride. It will be pretty exciting to see him race round there. He is a racer and doesn’t give up and I am sure he will be fine.”

With Holder and Janowski joined by Ward and Robert Miskowiak, Pirates chief Matt Ford again looks to have built a powerhouse top four.

Holder said: “To be able to get somebody like Janowski, who is a really good rider, means I am pretty sure we are going to be strong next year.

“Having him there as well as Robert Miskowiak gives us a good base to start from.”

Meanwhile, at the other end of Pirates’ team, Holder is backing Rohan Tungate to do a good job.

Discussing his fellow Australian, who is likely to line up at reserve alongside Kyle Howarth, Holder said: “He is stepping up to do some doubling up with Poole, which will be good for him.

“He will be looking forward to coming to Poole and I am sure he will definitely be one to watch.”
