CHARLIE Gajic’s second-half winner settled in Verwood Town’s favour a topsy-turvy Potterne Park encounter against Wessex Premier strugglers Lymington Town.

Gajic applied the finishing touch from close range to Kris Anderton’s probing free-kick as the Potters fought back to register their fourth league victory of the season.

The hosts were rewarded for an enterprising start – with Ben Kelly’s effort cleared off the line and Jack Satterley’s thunderous strike deflected wide – when they opened the scoring in the eighth minute.

Striker Mike Haskell, known to his Twitter followers as Haskeldinho, made the most of some statuesque defending to bundle home Russ Dyer’s inswinging corner.

Gajic was then denied by Stuart Williamson’s excellent save before the Potters were rocked when Lymington turned the game on its head by scoring twice in as many minutes midway through the first half.

A composed finish from Elliott Wykes was followed by a stunning strike from Jack Igglesden as Lymington, without a league win since the opening day of the season, threatened to upset the formbook.

However, Satterley restored parity five minutes before the break with a 20-yard drive which Williamson could only parry into the net before Gajic popped up with the decider 14 minutes from time.

Nathan Saxby lofted an effort wide following Haskell’s flick at the start of what proved to be a scrappy second half, while Satterley rattled the upright with a venomous drive late on.

Satterley was also the victim of a nasty stamp from Merl Anteney-Wright in injury-time, the Lymington defender’s attempts to plead his innocence proving futile as he was shown a straight red card.

Potters: Lynch, Evans, Kelly, Delaney, J Smith, Saxby, Gajic, Webb, Haskell, Satterley, Hill (Anderton, h-t). Unused subs: Jones, Murray, Rhodes (g/k).

  • Wessex Premier New Milton Town have signed Sam Groves, the teenage son of ex-Cherries manager Paul Groves. The defender has been involved in Linnets' past two matches.
