PROMOTER Matt Ford has hinted that Pirates legend Bjarne Pedersen could make a sensational Poole return by admitting: “I wouldn’t hesitate to use him.”

Ford revealed there was a possibility that he might still consider Pedersen in his 2013 plans – depending on the outcome of the British Speedway Promoters’ Association summit this week.

The sport’s chiefs will start a three-day meeting in Coventry tomorrow with team-building rules for next season top of the agenda.

Pirates boss Ford has made no secret of his desire to retain the services of Turbo Twins Chris Holder and Darcy Ward, with Grand Prix rider Krzysztof Kasprzak also keen to return to Dorset next year.

However, team-building restrictions could force Ford to delve deep into his asset base as he juggles with average limits for his one to seven.

And he says veteran Pedersen could come into his thinking, despite potential issues over fixture clashes.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “I have had four individual clubs already asking me about Bjarne’s availability.

“Although people are aware that we would like to go for a couple of our younger assets, Bjarne is still a very good rider.

“He has phoned me and I have explained to him that at this point in time, I couldn’t release him because there is still a possibility that we may actually need him. Bjarne is certainly not off my radar and I have got to say I wouldn’t hesitate to use him at any point in time.

“Probably one of the biggest problems would be that the Danish league runs on a Wednesday, which is our home day, and that is Bjarne’s only worry about things, but these things can be overcome.

“We will just have to look at things after the AGM when we know more about what is happening.”

Pedersen, who last rode for Pirates in 2010, is second on the club’s all-time list of scorers with 3,481.5 points. The former Poole captain saw his Elite League average dip from 8.21 to 7.35 during an inconsistent season with Birmingham last time out.

Pedersen recently told speedwaygp.com that he felt he still had “a lot to give for next year”.

Meanwhile, Ford also revealed that Poole asset Jason Doyle was under consideration.

The Australian lifted his average from 5.28 to 6.50 as he helped Swindon to Elite League glory last term.

Doyle has already stated he would be keen to stay at Blunsdon in 2013 but Ford insisted: “Jason Doyle is very much an option. He had a great year and he did exactly what we always knew he could do.”

Ford added: “I don’t care if I don’t disclose the final team member until March 1, I really am in no hurry this year.

“It will have to be contracts that are beneficial to the club and if that means us taking our time in our assets, other clubs are just going to have to be understanding that our riders won’t be released until that point.”
