CHRISTCHURCH manager Graham Kemp has fired a warning to Wessex League defences: Our wing wizards will take some stopping.

Kemp was speaking after talented duo Harry Cornick and Sam Griffin had produced dazzling displays to inspire Priory to a 3-0 victory over title rivals Moneyfields last night.

Ten-man Moneys proved no match for Premier Division championship contenders Christchurch as the hosts made their visitors pay for an ill-disciplined first-half showing at Hurn Bridge.

The much-talked-about Cornick netted a clinical double either side of a sublime effort from fellow wide man Griffin as Priory eased to a comfortable victory.

Boss Kemp told the Daily Echo: “When they are on fire, they take some stopping. Moneyfields were decent in all areas of the park but our two wide men gave their full-backs a torrid time. It was a good, disciplined display from them.

“They are excellent to watch when they play like that.”

Moneyfields were left to rue an X-rated challenge from Steve Hutchings when the former Cherries trainee was dismissed for his tackle on James Burden.

They might have also considered themselves fortunate that Dan Gauntlett escaped with only a booking following a lunge on the same player.

Asked about the red card, Kemp said: “We were 2-0 up at the time so were in control of the game. It was an added bonus for us.

“They played well, passed the ball and will definitely be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“But a few of their tackles were borderline and the referee deemed them fouls and acted accordingly. We kept our discipline, which we do well.”

Highly-rated teenager Cornick, who has attracted interest from a host of professional clubs this term, put Priory ahead with a composed finish after 12 minutes.

Griffin then took centre stage when his majestic left-foot curler left Moneyfields goalkeeper David Hook rooted to the spot.

Hutchings was sent off by Sandford-based referee Adam Baker midway through the opening period before Cornick completed the scoring five minutes into the second half.

The victory lifted Christchurch into second spot with a game in hand on leaders Downton.
