Volleyball: Olympian Zara signs for home-town club
7:00am Saturday 27th October 2012 in Sport By Echo Reporter
OLYMPIAN Zara Dampney has signed for the Wessex Rocare ladies team.
Dampney, who was a member of the Dorset club’s junior outfit, returns home after a great performance at the 2012 Olympics in London.
The former Parkstone Grammar School pupil just failed to make the last 16 in the beach volleyball event with playing partner Shauna Mullin at Horse Guards Parade.
She will be making her first appearance for Wessex at this weekend’s VolleyFest.
Wessex have also captured the signature of New Zealand international Kirk Pitman. Pitman, who is one of the top World Tour beach players. He has signed for Wessex Leaf BU men’s team until the end of the season.
Both Dampney and Pitman will be available to play at this weekend’s VolleyFest at Oakmead School starting tomorrow at 2pm, with free entry for all.
It is hoped with these additions Wessex will be able to bring high-quality European volleyball to the south coast in the coming years.
