Motorists using the A338 Spur Road who ignore the 40mph speed limit will now receive fixed penalty notices.

In a post uploaded to their A338 blog on Friday, Dorset County Council said although speed cameras have been operating since the contraflow started, motorists who go over the limit will now face fines.

The post said: "Our average speed cameras have now been tested and Dorset Police can process offences from now on.

"We’ve got a reduced speed limit for the safety of drivers and workers, watch your speed – No Excuse."

On Saturday, the road was closed for almost two hours after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision

Motorists have been warned they face further disruption when work takes place at Ferndown and Christchurch this week. 

From today, work will start on Ham Lane, west of the double mini roundabouts near Haskins, to install a new gas main.

This work will be done in two phases - from October 12-20 and then from November 2-December 24.

Both times, the traffic lights will be operated manually 7am-7pm to reduce congestion, with Southern Gas Networks, who are doing the work also told to work weekends.

Roadworks also start today on Alder Road in Poole with temporary multi way traffic signals in operation opposite the junction with Yarmouth Road.

The work being carried out consists of two projects with the first finishing on Sunday, October 18. The work is to restore customer service however no excavation will be carried out. 

The second project will finish on Tuesday, October 27, with two concrete chambers being built. The work involves the installation of two eight metre poly ducts. 

This morning, delays were reported in the roadworks area and at Herbert Avenue. 

From Wednesday, temporary traffic lights will placed on a busy road used as a diversion for drivers during the A338 works.

Bournemouth Water are carrying out work to install a water main on Stony Lane, which leads from Christchurch to the Avon Causeway.

The work will take place for three days from Wednesday. It is hoped to be completed by the weekend subject to any unforeseen issues.

There will be temporary traffic lights, operating 24 hours a day, but controlled manually from 7am until 7pm each day.

Work on the A348 Ringwood Road to improve road access to the development near the M&S site will run 19 Oct - 7 December. This work will only be carried out at night, 7pm-7am to reduce likelihood of problems.
