The A338 Spur Road is to be closed southbound overnight for four nights next week instead of five.

The road will be closed between Ashley Heath and Cooper Dean from 8pm until 6am, from Tuesday, September 29, until Friday, October 2, as part of the ongoing roadworks.

The closure was due to start from Monday however it has now been announced that this has been cancelled.

Dorset County Council: "Due to a clash with some overnight work by Highways England we will no longer be closing the southbound carriageway on Monday 28 September."

No further details of the overnight work being carried out by Highways England were released.

The planned closures are the first ones due to take place since the contraflow system came into effect on Monday morning.

Dorset County Council said they were necessary to add an access point to the works area, clear ditches and remove vegetation at Blackwater.

The road will also be closed northbound between the same locations and at the same times on Monday and Tuesday the following week, October 5 and 6.

These closures will allow ditch and vegetation clearance to take place.

On both occasions traffic will be diverted via the usual route through Ferndown.

The closures are as follows:

Monday, September 28 - southbound closure

Tuesday , September 29 - southbound closure

Wednesday, September 30 - southbound closure

Thursday, October 1  - southbound closure

Friday, October 2 - southbound closure

Monday, October 5 - northbound closure

Tuesday, October 6 - northbound closure
