THE A338 Spur Road will be fully closed in the early hours of tomorrow morning to allow for repairs.

The closure will affect the stretch of carriageway between Cooper Dean and Ashley Heath and will be in addition to the southbound closure - meaning the road is set to be entirely shut for two hours between midnight and 2am.

Council contractors working to complete the nine-month, £22 million rebuild require the urgent closure after "concrete" was found concealed under the road.

A spokesperson from Dorset County Council said: "We’ve discovered some large concrete bases hidden in the ground while excavating for the crossover.

"We need access to these but it requires a change in traffic management, which can only be done with the lane closed."

The southbound closure will take place between 8pm and 6am, and will allow for the installation of CCTV and average speed cameras.

The next planned full overnight closure is for Sunday, September 20.

From September 21 until Christmas the road will be closed southbound from the QinetiQ access, with a contraflow in place.
