WORKS to the infrastructure of a major £3million project at Bournemouth University's Talbot Campus have begun.

A new link road from Boundary Road Roundabout was agreed by Borough of Poole last September to create a new entrance to the campus, as well as a bus hub and an extension to the car parks.

It will see a fourth arm of the roundabout built in a bid to improve access to the new four-storey Gateway building on the western entrance of the campus.

Works have already begun on the waste compound project - a centralised facility to improve the waste process - as well as the fourth road itself from Boundary Road Roundabout to Gillett Road.

These works are expected to be completed by the beginning and end of July, respectively.

Works have also started for car parks F and G - to be completed by mid May - and to car park H which will be extended. This is expected to be finished by mid July.

The purpose-built bus hub works are expected to begin on May 22 and will be completed by December 22.

Road widening to Gillett Road will start on June 19 and continue until September 8.

It is estimated that the entire infrastructure project will be finished by January 2018.

Bournemouth University’s chief operating officer Jim Andrews said: “We are excited that the infrastructure work around our Talbot Campus has now commenced.

"This work includes a bus hub to remove BU-contracted buses from Fern Barrow and a two-way link road off the Boundary Road Roundabout, providing another entrance point for both the university and Talbot Village.

"These works are beginning now so they will be completed prior to the opening of the Poole Gateway, which gets underway in January next year.

"We are pleased to be able to provide these vital improvements that will bring benefit to both the university and the wider community.”
