POLICE officers and an ambulance were called to assist a man who was found lying by the side of the A338 Spur Road.
Dorset Police were contacted just after 7.55am with a report of a man on the grass verge in the southbound direction, near to the speed camera after the Cooper Dean Roundabout and before the Springbourne Roundabout.
A spokesperson for the police said that they do not believe that the man is injured but ambulance staff have located the man and are currently at the roadside.
Traffic is queuing back to the Cooper Dean flyover.
A South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson said that the man, who is in his forties, had collapsed at the scene, but was found to be conscious and breathing.
He has been taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital to be checked over.
All emergency vehicles had left the scene by 9am.
