SAFEWISE, a multi-site safety charity, is holding driving sessions called Dorset Driver Gold for older motorists.

The sessions which are specifically targeted for those aged 65 and over are available to individuals who wish to update their driving skills or gain confidence when on the road.

The lessons last up to three hours and include both theory and practical sessions. The theory sessions are designed to cover a variety of aspects of road safety, including judging speed and distance and making sure that each person is using the correct car for their needs.

The practical sessions are informal, include one-to-one sittings using the drivers' own cars, and last up to 90 minutes. The individual will not be tested, and there is no pass or fail element, but the instructor will look at how the driver deals with certain traffic situations and recommend ways in which the safety of the individual can be improved on the road.

The sessions are held for up to 20 attendees and include regular breaks with refreshments. The theory lessons cost £10 and the practical, £45.

Drivers must be able to read a new style number plate at 20m and should bring their driving licence.

The first Dorset Driver Gold session will commence on Wednesday 16th November.
