THE driver of a car that failed to stop for police before colliding with another vehicle and smashing into a wall fled from the scene at the weekend.

Officers attempted to stop the Audi car in the early hours of Saturday morning.

After making off the vehicle crashed along West Cliff Road, damaging a wall. The driver then fled on foot.

Meanwhile, the driver of the other car involved in the collision was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The road was closed, between Chine Crescent and Clarendon Road, for several hours while officers examined the scene and arranged recovery of the vehicles.

One neighbour told the Echo: “There was this almighty bang around 3am and we heard sirens blaring straight afterwards.

“The sirens kept going for around 15minutes.”

The police helicopter was also tasked with helping in the search for the suspect throughout the morning.

Yesterday, police confirmed no arrests had been made.

A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed: “At 2.56am on Saturday an Audi collided with a vehicle.

“It was reported that the Audi had failed to stop for police officers, and after an attempt to stop the vehicle subsequently made off from the scene.

“The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital for treatment but the injuries are not believed to be serious.

“A cordon was put in place to allow forensic officers to examine the scene.”
