COMMUNITIES have lost a number of services over the years. With cutbacks, increasing costs and a multitude of obligations, many authorities have struggled to provide the amenities they used to.

In some areas, residents have banded together to take over the running of those facilities, such as libraries and theatres. In Christchurch, the public responded when they heard their much-loved community hall was facing closure.

On Saturday campaigners who helped save Druitt Hall celebrated its re-launch. With a number of activities planned for the premises, it should have a bright future.
