Taxpayers to foot the bill

Taxpayers to foot the bill

First published in Opinion

THERE will be an element of ‘I told you so’ from residents and councillors in Creekmoor today.

Travellers finally left the park and ride site there at the weekend, but also left piles of rubbish strewn around the ground.

Council workers will be down there to begin the clean-up operation.

And it will be the hard-pressed taxpayer who will have to foot the bill.

The way forward is, as Cllr Judy Butt suggests, for Dorset councils to share transit sites.

But at the moment that is still a long way off.

The way forward is to prevent the annual invasion, and not reward it with open gates, skips, portaloos and and the usual rhetoric about being a minority group with seemingly the right to break the law with impunity!

The way forward is to stop the human rights of these people walking all over the human rights of the rest of us. Human rights are supposed to be for ALL of us, not just "ethnic minorities".

£250,000 saved through not building a TSP at Safety Drive, land sale of that plot £400,000. So far £40,000 has been spent on preventive measures on some of the sites in Poole. Pretty sure there is still plenty in the pot to pay for that clearup.

Same thing will happen again next year and will continue to do so until either the government changes their ethnic status or the police and council start actually doing something other than bending over backward for them. The farmer in a neighbouring county had the right idea, he blocked them in and they soon moved of his land.
