Officialdom and censorship

First published in Opinion

THERE’S been some criticism, not least of this newspaper, for reporting in advance details of the two marches in Bournemouth today and claims by some people who should know better, that any problems arising will have been the fault of the media.

This view and the belief of some there should have been no pre-reporting, raises some interesting questions. Not least the extent to which public officials appear to support censorship and denying the public its right to know. And a very poor grasp of the modern media environment in the age of Twitter and Facebook.

Maybe it's just poor journalism, but, The Echo appeared to be giving far greater coverage to the EDL march than it did for the alternative, certainly gave me the impression The Echo was in support of EDL.

Why did a lot of comments get deleted, one of mine included, later on the the evening. Seems to have lopped a lot of comments.
